Dr. Katherine “Kat” Ngaruiya
Dr. Katherine “Kat” Ngaruiya specializes in fundraising, program development, strategic planning, and evaluation for philanthropic organizations.
During her time with the Sponsored Programs Division at Wake Technical Community College, Kat was instrumental in securing $20 million in large federal grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Labor (DOL) and Department of Education (DOEd) among others.
Following her tenure at the largest community college in North Carolina, Kat worked at NC New Schools, an innovative education consulting firm that supported school districts in rural areas of North Carolina. She led the successful writing and submission of their first two NSF grants over a four-month timeframe.
Kat remains invested in the community, serving as adjunct faculty at NC State University and Meredith College, teaching classes on nonprofit management and public administration. She has led training sessions for local nonprofit leaders and nonprofit boards, collaborating with Loop Creative/ReCity Network in Durham and Impact Alamance in Burlington.
Kat completed her MA in Counseling Psychology at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln and received her Ph.D. in Public Administration from North Carolina State University.
